The Beginning of a Passion

My journey into dog grooming began at the age of 16. Like many young adults, I was unsure where I was headed; however, I knew one thing: I loved animals, especially dogs. From my first experience at Writtle College in Chelmsford, I felt a strong connection.

I remember that first day vividly—a mix of excitement and nerves filled the air. The college salon smelled like shampoo and fur, and I was eager to learn everything I could. However, becoming a City & Guilds qualified dog groomer required significant effort and commitment. It was about mastering dog anatomy, understanding behaviours, and creating a safe and enjoyable grooming environment.

Learning the Ropes

During my training, I had the incredible opportunity to work with a variety of dog breeds. This included everything from fluffy Bichon Frises to sleek Doberman Pinschers, each with unique requirements. For instance, I spent hours practicing the specific grooming techniques for breeds prone to matting, such as the Poodle. Each challenge I faced only fuelled my passion further.

My tutors recognized my dedication and encouraged me to go the extra mile. After completing my first full grooming session, I felt an overwhelming sense of accomplishment. This experience solidified my love for the profession.

Building a Career

After completing my college studies at Writtle College, I jumped into the industry with enthusiasm. Over the course of my 15-year career, I've gained experience in several grooming parlour's and learned from the best in the field. In 2010, I opened my own business in Canvey Island, striving to create a welcoming environment for both pets and their owners.

My aim is for dogs to feel at home during their grooming sessions. It's not just about looking fabulous; it's about the complete experience. According to a recent survey conducted among pet owners, 85% stated that a calm and friendly environment is essential for their pets during grooming.

De-matting: I gently remove tangles and mats, which can often be time-consuming but vital for the dog’s comfort in some cases a clip down short will be required to ensure i adhere to the Animals Welfare.
